Lunch time Karate at the Maudsley

Vicky Simms is a staff member and PhD student at King's, but also a 1st Dan in the Karate-Do Shotokai Association and is giving classes to King's people at 3.00pm to 4.00pm in the Studio at the Kinetic gym every Saturday. You do not have to be a member of Kinetic to come along.

Why Karate?

You don't have to be fit to begin and the tutor takes into account each individual's capabilities.
There is no danger involved and here karate is treated as a discipline not as a sport. There are no competitions.
It emphasises the ability of the body to be relaxed and mobile in stressful situations such as those encountered in combat. There is less emphasis placed on strength and power and more on distance, timing and the right body condition.
