Data Protection - Introduction

The Data Protection Act 1998 sets out the legislative framework for managing personal information. This includes student records, staff files and personally identifiable research data.

The Act sets out the standards for data management and provides a right of access by data subjects the information that the university holds about them. The university's Data Protection Policy provides additional detail about how the personal information information is handled. Please see our policy page for related policies.

King's is a registered data controller under the Act. The registration number is: Z7915194

The Information Commissioner's Office is the supervisory body for the UK in relation to Information Rights.

The Information Management and Compliance Team manages requests for personal information and provides guidance and support to staff and students to ensure compliance with the Act. You can find out how to make a request for your personal information here.
