Dr Ruth Mayagoitia, Department of Physiotherapy, visited Mexico to develop collaborative research projects with the Universidad Iberoamericana and the National Rehabilitation Institute.

Dr Maribel Fernandez, Department of Computer Science, visited Uruguay, to explore collaborative research and teaching links with the University ORT, and Portugal, to strengthen existing research links with the University of Porto.

Dr Patricia Palmer, Department of English, visited Chile to further her research on Alonso de Ercilla y Zúñiga’s epic, La Araucana, and to support the marketing department’s attendance at the Graduate Fair in Santiago.

Dr Adrian Pearce, Department of History / Department of Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies, visited Spain to explore collaborative links with the University of Seville, the Pablo de Olavide University, the Escuela de Estudios Hispanoamericanos (School of Spanish-American Studies), and the Archivo General de Indias (General Archive of the Indies).

Dr Andy Grant, Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, visited Brazil in November 2009 to further his research into pain mechanisms and to foster links with the University of São Paulo.

Professor Anne Ridley, Randall Division of Cell & Molecular Biophysics Anatomy, visited Brazil in December 2009 to further develop her collaborative research into leukaemia with the University of Campinas.

Dr Gerome Breen and Professor Peter McGuffin, Institute of Psychiatry, visited Brazil in December 2009 to develop links in psychiatry research with the Federal University of Sao Paulo.

Dr Domitilla Sagramoso, Department of War Studies, visited Colombia to research the impact of World Bank projects in central Colombia and to develop links with the University El Rosario and the Universidad de los Andes.

Dr Gwendolen MacKeith, in collaboration with Professor Catherine Boyle, Department of Spanish and Spanish American Studies, visited Argentina in August 2009 to further her research on Argentine playwright Griselda Gambaro and to foster research and teaching links with the University of Buenos Aires and the University of the República of Montevideo.

Dr Sara Donetto, Centre for Public Policy Research, visited Brazil in November 2009 to develop a collaborative research proposal on the practices of “person-centredness” in health care with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

Dr Debra Bick, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, visited Brazil in October 2009 to develop collaborative midwifery research with the University of Sao Paulo.
