Public Lectures

The Menzies Centre organises two major public lectures each year, the Menzies Lecture and the Trevor Reese Memorial Lecture:

The Menzies Lecture is organised each year by the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies. It is designed to provide an opportunity for a distinguished person, of any nationality, to reflect on a subject of contemporary interest affecting Britain and Australia.

The Trevor Reese Memorial Lecture is an annual event of the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies in association with the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. The lecture is in honour of Dr Reese, a distinguished historian of the British Commonwealth and Australia and Reader at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, the Centres home from 1982 to 1999. He was author of 'Australia in the Twentieth Century', and first editor of the 'Journal of Imperial and Commonwealth History'. The lecture is always given by a younger scholar in the disciplines of history or political science.
