Excellence in Research
The Menzies Centre for Australian Studies based at King’s College London, despite its relatively small size, produces a broad range of cutting-edge research on a broad range of subjects. As well as supervising a number of research students in various areas of Australian history, culture and politics, the centre collaborates on several research projects and has a high output of written materials relating to conferences and lectures supported by the Centre.
Research Goals
The Menzies Centre’s research is focused on the study of Australia and Australians in British, European and global contexts, from comparative, interdisciplinary and postcolonial perspectives. Its main strengths lie in history, politics, literature and film studies. Academic staff in the Centre examine British and European images of Australia in the past and present, as well as how British and European ways of seeing have influenced Australian society and culture, interacting with Indigenous, Asian and other identities in a national setting.
