Simon Gaunt and Karen Pratt in conversation: translating The Song of Roland

Song of Roland

Simon Gaunt and Karen Pratt, both of the Department of French, King's College London, discuss the challenges of translating the Roland and read from their new translation of the poem (The Song of Roland and Other Poems of Charlemagne, Oxford University Press, 2016) as well as from the other two epic poems they translated with the Roland in order to illustrate its literary context and its medieval legacy (Daurel et Beton and Le Voyage de Charlemagne), which are often poorly understood by modern readers. There will be an opportunity for questions, and to buy copies of the book. A wine reception will be held after the event.
