5AABY003 Year Abroad Long Essay in Target Language
Credit value: 15 credits
This module is compulsory for all students on Pathways 2, 3 & 4.
It is designed to test your discursive abilities in Greek. A certain amount of reading and use of other media will obviously be necessary so that you have sufficient basis to develop an informed argument, but this is not a research assessment. Examiners will look for evidence that you have considered the topic over a period of time and have collected relevant information, but principally they will be looking for your own individual intellectual response to the topic chosen, expressed in an appropriate style, and showing a broad command of vocabulary, syntax and idiom, and presented with care and attention to detail.
Students will be supplied early on with a list of topics, which will not be specifically related to the course of study but will include both topics relating to Greece and others of a more general nature. All topics will encourage the development of reasoned argument and test competence at an appropriate register.
The length of the essay will be c 3,000 words (submission date to be announced by Year Abroad tutor).
