Responsibilities

managing the departments’ finances on a day-to-day basis, including post-award grant management

providing advice to academic staff in the departments on completing grant proposals and applications

being responsible for arranging contracts for temporary teaching staff

being the first point of contact for all research students in the departments

being the co-ordinator for data collection relating to the Research Excellence Framework (REF)

managing departmental space and IT infrastructure planning for the departments

supporting the departments' learning and teaching objectives by preparing documentation for programme and module approval and modifications

providing comprehensive administration to the relevant committees

line-managing the relevant professional services staff

Education and Professional Background
Michael has a BA Geography (London) and a PGCE Geography (Bath). He taught Geography with, at various times, PE, Maths and History at secondary level in Bristol and Hampshire. He had a 6-month secondment to the Royal College of Physicians in 2000-01. He finally left school in 2001 to take up a post in the Department of Lifelong Education and International Development at the Institute of Education. He joined the Departments of Byzantine & Modern Greek Studies and Classics at King's College London in January 2004 before taking up his current role in February 2011.
