Modern greek STUDIES

King’s is one of only three UK institutions that teach Modern Greek to BA degree level. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in Modern Greek Studies. At MA level, students can specialise in the History, Literarture or Sociolinguistics of Modern Greece.

We offer an MA in Greek Tradition, which examines the Greek-speaking world from the second millennium BC to the modern day, and provides opportunities for interdisciplinary study, including Greek language, literature, visual and material culture, history and thought.

LATE ANTIQUE & BYZANTINE STUDIES

This is the study of The Byzantine Empire (or Byzantium), the predominantly Greek-speaking eastern part of the Roman Empire throughout Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Late Antique & Byzantine studies.

 

GRaduate DiPLOMA

We offer a Graduate Diploma in Late Antique & Byzantine Studies, an ideal programme of study for graduates in unrelated or tangentially related disciplines wishing to pursue work in the field. Students study at least one classical language.

combined honours

We offer BA programmes that combine Modern Greek with French, German, Portuguese and Hispanic Studies. We also offer a BA in Turkish & Modern Greek, which is a joint programme with the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS).

RESEARCH

We supervise MPhil/PhD research students on a wide range of topics, from Greek literature since the 12th century to the archaeology, architecture and economic history of Byzantium and the Levant.
