A King’s College London event hosted by the Notre Dame University
The Hellenist Jacqueline de Romilly, the first woman nominated to the Collège de France, and only the second to enter the Académie Française, was born on 26th March 1913.
In order to celebrate her achievements on the centenary of her birth, alongside those of other women pioneers in the study of the languages, literature, history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome, Rosie Wyles, Edith Hall, and Lottie Parkyn from the Department of Classics at King's have organised a two-day interdisciplinary conference, ‘Women as Classical Scholars’.
We are delighted to announce that Ruth Webb, Professor of Greek at the Université Charles-de-Gaulle Lille 3 and Michele Ronnick, Professor of Classics, Wayne State University, Detroit will be our keynote speakers.
The programme includes papers by seventeen distinguished scholars in the field discussing the contributions of both Latinists and Hellenists.
A buffet lunch on both days and a drinks reception on Saturday 23 March will be provided for delegates – please inform Rosie Wyles if you have any dietary requirements.
