Department of Classics

Classics

This is the study of the classical world by focussing on Greek and Latin literature and language, and involves reading texts in the original Greek or Latin. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Classics.

Art & Archaeology

This is the study of Classical art history and archaeology, and involves field trips and some study of Greek and Latin. We offer an undergraduate BA in Classical Archaeology and a MA programme in Classical Art & Archaeology.

Ancient history

This is the study of the ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern world, and involves some study of Greek and Latin. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Ancient History.

classical studies

This is the study of the classical world and ancient civilization as a whole, with an emphasis on Greek and Roman culture and thought, and involves some study of Greek and Latin. We offer a BA degree and a Graduate Diploma in Classical Studies.

Greek & Latin

All of our undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes inolve some formal learning of Greek and Latin. We also offer a BA in Greek with English, which focuses on the study of the classical world through reading texts in the original Greek and combining this with the study of English.

research

We offer PhD research programmes in Classics and Digital Classical Studies. We offer expert supervision across the whole range of Classics and related areas, and as a research-led Department we welcome new students to come to study with us for a PhD.
