Learning Environment

The learning environment here at CMCI is designed to support your intellectual growth during your time here. The wide range of resources available will help facilitate your independent study skills as you develop a critical understanding of your chosen subjects and modules. All students have full access to the Maughan Library, situated very close to the Strand campus, that has an extensive humanities collection. Students are also able to use the library’s e-resources, which includes access to hundreds of relevant journals and periodicals. In addition, Maughan has a large audio-visual collection that is open to all.

Within CMCI itself, all students have access to the student study room within the Strand campus, overlooking the Thames. The room offers plenty of desk space and connectivity for laptops and thus easy access to all online resources. This is a unique space in which students can study, write, discuss and share ideas in proximity to the staff within the department and you are encouraged to make full use of it.

As a department, we are committed to providing cutting-edge learning resources that support our teaching and we have invested
heavily in our online learning portal. All students will use our Blackboard Vista Virtual Learning Environment. Through Blackboard we circulate readings, lecture material and supplementary resources from web links to media files. Each module maintains its own Blackboard file so students can be constantly updated as material becomes available. With Blackboard and the extensive set of e-resources provided by King’s College library services, you will have 24-hour access to a wide range of virtual material. Coupled with this, the various spaces available to you within CMCI and King’s more widely, offer a rich and supportive learning environment.
