MA Cultural and Creative Industries

MA Cultural and Creative Industries

MA Cultural and Creative Industries is an innovative graduate degree programme that combines analysis of the arts and cultural sectors at international, national and local levels with the broader study of issues in cultural theory and history. The programme makes extensive use of our central London location. Students benefit from our links with a wide range of cultural and creative organisations in London and beyond, through guest lectures, internships and research seminars.

Why study for the MA CCI?

The MA Cultural and Creative Industries at King’s College London will give you a unique opportunity to gain insight into the cultural and creative industries while studying at an internationally renowned university in the very centre of London. You will gain a distinctive interdisciplinary and critical understanding of culture and creativity, through exploring probing questions about creative industries and work, cultural management, cultural policy, and all aspects of cultural life from fashion or youth subcultures to film, music and visual culture.

The MA CCI Programme focuses on the practice, operation and governance of the cultural and creative industries. For this, it draws on the leading research and industry knowledge and expertise of its internationally recognised staff (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/artshums/depts/cmci/people/index.aspx). You will be taught by dedicated staff with cutting edge knowledge of the cultural and creative industries, encompassing structural (the unique structure and organisation of the cultural and creative industries), sectoral (constituent industries and practices, and the similarities and differences between them) and sectional issues (the position of various sub-sections of society in cultural production and consumption). Benefiting from high-level industry links, and the opportunity to undertake an internship in a leading cultural organisation, the course promotes a distinctive synthesis of theoretical and experiential learning (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/artshums/depts/cmci/study/hosts/index.aspx).

As the longest running programme of its kind, and with a strongly international flavour, the course has seen many of its alumni go on to develop leading positions throughout the cultural and creative industries, throughout the world. You will, therefore, benefit from becoming part of a talented and ambitious cohort of select students that will provide an unparalleled network in the years to come.

Whilst you will be encouraged to develop key transferable skills – analytical, critical, report writing, research skills, etc. the Programme is not a ‘how to’ cultural management or marketing course, nor is it suitable for those looking for a more traditional journalism, communications or media MA.
