Biography

As the English Subject Centre's Learning Technologist I have an outward facing role with responsibility for interpreting and disseminating current developments in Learning Technologies (e.g. pedagogies, software & hardware tools) for the benefit of the English Subject community (English Literature, English Language and Creative Writing lecturers throughout the UK), liaising with the community about the kinds of support they need in this area and designing resources to assist them. These can include web-based resources, publications, bespoke workshops and seminars or community-based networking events.

As part of a small team working at the forefront of pedagogy in Higher Education I provide input into all areas of the Subject Centre's work including areas such as Diversity & Inclusion, Transition, Sustainability, CPD of Early Career lecturers. My current projects include a JISC/HEA OER Phase II project called 'The Pool' (or ASSAP) developing innovative online CPD materials for Early Career lecturers, the development of new templates for the Subject Centre website, a 'Change Academy' project on transition, a Seed guide to using VLE's and the ongoing development of the e-learning section of the website.

The second part of my role is responsibility for the overall design, development and management of the English Subject Centre's main website and series of microsites (e.g. Why Study English?, After English), databases, a Moodle instance (VLE) and 2 web servers. This role also involves training Subject Centre staff in the use of various software tools and web forms for site administration commissioning and managing external programming work and monitoring web statistics and technological enhancements. I work predominantly with the Adobe suite of web design tools (Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Contribute) and am proficient in HTML / CSS.
