Professor Rob Proctor

External Examiner for the MA in Digital Curation

Rob ProctorBiography
My principal research interest is social informatics – the sociology of information and communication technology-based innovation. In general terms, the focus is to understand how cognitive, organisational and social factors shape processes of appropriation (design, development and adoption) of innovations in information and communication technologies (ICTs). Regarding application domains, I am particularly interested in: computer-supported, collaborative work; research infrastructures, tools and methods; social media, crisis communications and community resilience; and health informatics. I have a long-standing interest in methodologies for user-centred, participatory design, with an emphasis on the co-production (‘co-realisation’) and co-evolution of ICTs with and by users. As deputy head (Research) in the Computer Science Department at Warwick University, I am responsible for developing departmental research strategy and overseeing its implementation.
