MA Digital Asset and Media Management
The MA in Digital Asset and Media Management responds to the growing demand for professionals who are familiar with the emerging digital needs of the broadcast, publishing, media and cultural heritage industries. Understanding the dynamic digital media landscape is key to developing new strategies and methods for creating and using digital media assets and will allow those working in these content industries to leverage their content in creative and innovative ways in the future.
The growing dependence on digital media assets in these industries is a key component of future economic development in Europe, Asia and the USA.
The MA will be of key interest to anybody planning to work in the building and deployment of digital media assets and digital media, or anyone planning a career which involves research in these content areas.
The programme is multidisciplinary in nature, and draws on the experience of teaching staff in both the theoretical and applied aspects of the field. Students will be equipped with a range of essential strategic and practical skills to provide direction and leadership in the areas of digital media, new media and digital asset management. The teaching concentrates especially on the creation, management and preservation of complex multimedia objects but takes into consideration other objects too.
Essential skills in dealing with digital assets are complemented by the teaching of media and medium theory; critiques of social policy; digital curation and preservation practices and information systems theory. The MA programme's approach to digital media places the student in the centre of the academic and professional debates within which current technology is being deployed. This allows them to develop an understanding of competing theories and practices emerging from the fields of digital asset and media management; media and communications and library and information science, thus providing a well-rounded understanding of the requirements across domains.
The programme has close links to industry with a special industry advisory board ensuring that students have the skills required in today's media landscape. The optional internship module allows students to gain professional experience in London - a global hub for the creative and content industries.
The MA in Digital Asset and Media Management is taught by staff in the Department of Digital Humanities at King’s College London.
