7AAVMWEB Web Technologies

(Semester 1, 20 credits)

This module provides practical skills in web development and design through lectures and practical sessions. At first the lectures will introduce the main technologies and protocols for the Web: HTML, File Transfer Protocol, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript. These introductory seminars will: show the current use of these technologies in modern web applications and teach how to use their principal functions. By teaching JavaScript the course will also introduce basic concepts of programming that will be a valuable background for other modules.

The second series of lectures is structured around specific topics: image processing; information architecture; cross-browser and cross-device compatibility. The topics are introduced in detail and will be supported by suggested readings. Moreover, the lectures will show tools and techniques around these topics, thus improving the experience of the technologies introduced in the first series of lectures.

All lectures of this module are followed by a one-hour laboratory. The laboratories will be exclusively practical and often student-led.
