Benjamin joined King's in September 2016, having previously taught at Birkbeck, University of London, where he co-founded and directed the undergraduate creative writing programme and delivered MA fiction modules.
He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, Canada, which he attended with the support of a Commonwealth Scholarship.
Benjamin's first novel The Bellwether Revivals (Simon & Schuster) was published in 2012. It was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award and the Commonwealth Book Prize, and its French translation was awarded le Prix du Roman Fnac and le Prix Baudelaire. Film rights to the novel were sold to NOHO Film & Television in a collaboration with BBC Films. In 2013, Benjamin served as the British Council's Writer in Residence in Istanbul, Turkey, where he began researching and writing his second novel, The Ecliptic (Scribner UK, 2015). It was shortlisted for the Sunday Times PFD Young Writer of the Year and the Encore Award for best second novel 2015.
His third novel, Negative Peace, will be published by Scribner in 2018.
