undergraduate programme

Rated best in the UK for the study of film by the Guardian University Guide 2015, we offer a single honours BA as well as combined degrees with English, French, German, Hispanic Studies and Comparative Literature


postgraduate taught programme

Our MA in Film Studies offers a choice of modules that examine the wide range of cinemas and approaches to studying film. There is also the option to combine film studies with philosophy.


Postgraduate research programme

Our PhD specialisms range from European, American, and World Cinema; to cultural history and critical theory. We have a lively graduate community offer supervision by internationally acclaimed scholars.

The department runs an energizing series of research seminars that take place regularly throughout term time. The Film Studies research community of graduates, post-doctoral students, and staff, creates a warm environment for stimulating discussion in response to papers by guest speakers who showcase their latest research.
