Governance
The Department of French is governed through a number of committees and each staff member and student representatives play a role in these committees. The Department Teaching Committee advises the Head of Department on teaching strategy and practice within the department while the Postgraduate and Research Committee (PARC) advises the Head of Department on all matters relating to research, including the monitoring of postgraduate research students. The Staff-Student Liaison Committee (SSLC), for undergraduates and taught postgraduates consists of a selection of staff members and student representatives from each year group. Discussions in the meeting focus primarily on issues raised by the student representatives on behalf of other students.

Postgraduate Taught Programme Board of Examiners
The Postgraduate Taught Programme Board of Examiners is responsible for ensuring that the examination and assessment procedures for which it is responsible are carried out in accordance with the regulations governing the programmes and awards concerned and other relevant College regulations and in a fair and impartial manner.

Undergraduate Programme Board of Examiners
The Undergraduate Programme Board of Examiners is responsible for ensuring that the examination and assessment procedures for which it is responsible are carried out in accordance with the regulations governing the programmes and awards concerned and other relevant College regulations and in a a fair and impartial manner.

Staff-Student Liaison Committee (SSLC)
The staff-student liaison committee (both undergraduates and postgraduate taught students) meet each semester. The committee consists of a selection of staff members and student representatives from each year group. Early in the year, all students will be contacted asking them if they would like to take on this role, and the list of reps will be publicised. Discussions in the meeting focus primarily on issues raised by the student reps, usually on behalf of other students. Minutes of the discussions are posted in the department and are also discussed further in departmental meetings.
