Programme structure
All research students are initially registered for the MPhil degree. After one year of full-time study, or two years part-time, students undergo a review for which they submit a piece of work (around 10,000 words) and a programme for completion of the PhD dissertation, which they present to a panel of staff members. If the student's progress is considered satisfactory, he or she is then 'upgraded' to registration for the PhD. As well as this 'upgrade' review, all students, whether full- or part-time undergo an annual progress review, conducted by the Department's Postgraduate and Research Committee (PARC).
