Research interests
Helen is a Visiting Research Fellow, working on the history of the body, aging, and identity. Her book, 'Aging and Identity in eighteenth-century England' is to be published by Pickering and Chatto in 2012. More broadly Helen is interested in early modern socio-cultural and medical history, particularly concepts of identity & selfhood, masculinity, character, health and disease. She teaches on the first year module on Early Modern Britain.
Biography
Helen holds a MA in History from Cambridge University (Newnham College) and an MA in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art. Helen worked as a headhunter for four years before returning to academia. Her PhD, entitled 'The idea of aging in eighteenth-century England' was completed in 2009, under the supervision of Laura Gowing.
