History
The Department of History at King’s is acknowledged as one of the best in the world, and is ranked second in The Sunday Times 2011 rankings for History. A major in history is designed to develop students’ critical thinking and independence of thought about the past. The range of option modules spans medieval, early-modern and modern history and covers a variety of approaches and geographical areas. The unrivalled range of modules ensures that students can choose a coherent programme of study to match their interests.
Requirements
Students majoring in history must have taken one of the following modules in year 1:

Option Modules
In Year 2, students who are not studying abroad must take one 30 credit module plus one 15 credit module. Students who are studying abroad in Semester 2 must take two 15 credit modules running Semester 1.

Students must take one 30-credit module from the following list. You should ordinarily take the Dissertation module that matches the appropriate 30-credit module above. The exception would be if you wish to pursue a freestanding long essay, which is a dissertation on a topic of your choice. In order to take this option, you will need to have done substantial preliminary thinking about this topic and to have found an appropriate supervisor.
