Year 2
The focus of the second year is to develop a grounding in a particular academic discipline (your major), and also to give you the chance to explore other option modules.
You are strongly encouraged to consider spending the second semester at one of our partner institutions as part of the College's Study Abroad programme.
Compulsory Module (15 credits)
Perspectives: Power and Society
Your Major (60 credits)
Although the BA Liberal Arts is designed to give you a broad and interdisciplinary education, your choice of major subject will give you a focus in one academic subject, to a level equivalent to joint-honours students. This will enable to you to compete effectively for places on masters programmes in your chosen subject.
Approximately half of your second and third years are spent taking modules in your major subject. In year two, you can either take 60 credits of option modules at King's, or if taking the second semester abroad, 30 credits at King's and an equivalent of 30 credits at the partner institution.
You will remain part of the Liberal Arts programme, with a personal tutor, and regular programme meetings, but you will also have a home within one of the academic departments of the College, giving you a great opportunity to network and make new friends in your second year.
You can view a list of the majors we are offering in 2012. This list may change or expand as we develop new major pathways.
Non-Major Options (45 credits)
In addition to the modules taken as part of your major, you will choose from a wide selection of modules from across the range of subjects offered in the programme, allowing you to build a unique degree which reflects your interests.
You could use this opportunity to take modules which reinforce your major subject, or develop an interest in a different field. Because second year modules are more advanced than those taken in the first year, you can only study modules in subjects for which you have taken the option modules in year one. Non-major options can include:
