Graduate Diploma in Languages of the Wider World

Graduate Diploma in Arabic/Mandarin Chinese

Full-time/Part-time

Applications will not be taken on this programme until September 2012, for start in September 2013.

This programme in languages of the wider world aims to provide intensive  language teaching and learning opportunities based on the needs, resources, and professional domain of the students.

It develops learners’ communicative language competences in Arabic, Farsi or Mandarin Chinese, from 0 to B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It also equips learners for the challenges of intensified mobility, international communication across linguistic and cultural boundaries for access to information and professional/academic networks.

Overall, the programme will enable individual learners to develop an enriched, more sophisticated global personality, an enhanced capacity for further language learning and greater openness to new cultural experiences (through increased inter-cultural awareness, skills and know-how).

For the full-time route, students will be required to attend classes for a total of 12 hours a week over 3 days (i.e 4 hrs a day).

For the part-time route, students are expected to attend classes for a total of 6 hours a week, on one evening during the week (6-9am) and a Saturday morning (10-1pm).

The Arabic pathway is a feeder programme for entry into the MA in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies.
