Abstract
My PhD is at once an attempt to develop a theory of the relationship between music and politics through music analysis and an experiment in music historiography that asks what late twentieth-century music history might look like if it took political self-conceptualisation as its driving subject. I address a wide range of musical practices from serialism to experimental theatre, sound art to industrial music.
