Timetable
1st SEMESTER
Week 3: Preliminary meeting with Supervisor.
Week 6: Title and outline.
Week 8: Summary of contents.
2nd SEMESTER
Week 3: Draft of one section or chapter.
Week 7: Draft of half dissertation for reading by supervisor.
Week 10: Full draft.
Guidelines

The student emails a short proposal to the Department. The Head of Dept consult a suitable supervisor and decide, in consultation, whether or not to accept the proposal and therefore admit the student to the dissertation option. The Department reserves the right to advise against the exercising of this option.

The timetable above MUST be adhered to.

The student is entitled to 4 x one-hour tutorials

The supervisor will usually see only a first draft of less than half of the dissertation. The supervisor will not read a final draft or comment on the entire dissertation.

The supervisor will give advice and point out error rather than provide detailed correction. It is the student’s responsibility to seek to correct errors by using the appropriate sources.

The dissertation is required to be analytical rather than descriptive in approach.

The dissertation must be fully referenced and be supplied with a bibliography.
