Module Description

This module provides a deeper analysis of Portuguese language and of the structures acquired in LA04. Students are encouraged to express themselves in coherently argued, creative and structured written language. At this stage the focus shifts from oral work to more complex types of texts as students are made aware of how ideas are better organised and presented in a clear, logical manner (coherence), and of the ways in which sentences are combined to form a meaningful unit through a wide variety of semantic devices (cohesion).

Writing has to be better organised and more precise than speech and this is expected of the student who has time to reflect, restructure and re-formulate.

Module includes extensive reading, writing practice and class discussion on various topics chosen among a wide range of world issues.
