Research interests
Dr Gwen MacKeith is a post-doctoral research assistant for the AHRC-funded project, Out of the Wings. Led at King’s by principal investigator, Professor Catherine Boyle, this new resource aims to make the riches of Spanish and Spanish America Theatre accessible to English-speaking researchers and theatre professionals. While the project covers both Golden Age and Modern Spanish drama, Gwen is responsible for selecting and translating excerpts from Latin American plays for the Out of the Wings database (see
www.outofthewings.org).
Her own special research interests lie in literary translation, namely the translation of fiction and poetry, as well as the translation of theatre for performance. She has also been actively involved in the poetry translation centre (
www.poetrytranslation.org) since its founding in 2004: a workshop dedicated to translating contemporary poetry from Africa, Asia and Latin America. You can view one of Gwen’s translations of a poem by the Peruvian poet, Blanca Varela, ‘Secreto de familia’:
