9 October 2012  Breathe' animation brings air pollution research to life

An animation of a small boy breathing, created by acclaimed artist Dryden Goodwin in collaboration with King’s air pollution expert Professor Frank Kelly, will illuminate London’s Westminster skyline this month.

25 October 2012  An artist's impression of London's air pollution problem

Monet painted some his best impressionist pictures of the smog-bound Thames and the Houses of Parliament from a second-floor terrace at St Thomas's Hospital. Today they are recognised as pretty accurate representations of London's air pollution at the end of the 19th century.

5 December 2012 Great Smog 60 years on: 'New laws needed to clean London's air'

Sixty years ago thick smog descended on London, contributing to the deaths of an estimated 4,000 people. The four-day "pea-souper", while worse than usual, was a familiar experience for Londoners. Visibility was so poor buses and taxis ground to a halt, forcing commuters to hurry underground to use the Tube.

On November 30 2012 the United Kingdom Molecular Epidemiology Group (UKMEG; www.meguk.org) held a workshop entitled “Design of Future Molecular Epidemiology Studies and New Biomarkers” at the Waterloo Conference Centre in London.

18 December 2012  Professor Cowan becomes FKC

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the science of drug testing and control, highlighted by the London 2012 Olympics, King’s college have recently awarded Professor Cowan the title of ‘Fellow of King’s College’ .
