Teaching
Dr Whittlesea’s teaching is predominantly in the areas of patient safety, public health and prescribing including physical assessment skills. She is one of the editors of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, a core reference book for pharmacy undergraduate and postgraduate students and is also co-author of the chapter on prescribing. She is director of the MSc in Pharmacy Practice which is offered as a certificate, diploma and Masters qualification. She is also course leader of the Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing, accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council which is taught with nurses undertaking the equivalent course accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Dr Whittlesea is an external examiner for postgraduate degrees in both pharmacy practice and independent prescribing In addition, in collaboration with colleagues in the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery, she has also the developed a module to allow community pharmacists to supply oral contraception under a patient group direction. She leads a second module to support pharmacists to provide advice to patient on the self management of contraception and sexual health. A work based module in paediatric pharmaceutical care is also offered in collaboration with King’s Health Partner trusts. Dr Whittlesea is currently deputy chair of the undergraduate Master of Pharmacy Board of Examiners and the postgraduate MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences and MSc Pharmacy Practice Programme Board of Examiners. She is also a member of the College’s Misconduct Committee.
