Enhancing student employability
Upon graduation, around 74% of King’s graduates go straight into employment, some alongside part time study. Around 16% move straight into full time further study. Our aim is to continue to support all schools and departments to enhance the employability of their students.
King's Careers and Employability works directly with academic departments in a variety of ways to improve the employability of students. Each department has a dedicated Careers Consultant who can work with the department to decide how best to support students. This is usually done in collaboration with an academic member of staff who has responsibility for careers within the department (see Careers Liaison Tutor Recommended Roles for more information).

Recommended Roles
Careers Education
King's Careers and Employability works with departments to develop tailored careers education sessions at every level of study. We can provide individual sessions or programmes of learning, focussing on career choice, job hunting and skills development. Some of the services we can provide include:
-
integrating career-related skills development into the curriculum
-
running workshops, seminars and careers education programmes tailored to departments or programmes
-
inviting alumni and relevant employers to meet current students
-
helping students to develop employability and career management skills
We work with a Careers Liaison Tutor in each department to discuss the requirements of the students and plan relevant workshops, lectures and events. To find out who the Careers Liaison tutor is for your department or to discuss how we might work with you contact us via careers@kcl.ac.uk.
Graduate Destinations Data
King's Careers and Emplouability is responsible for collecting and analysing data on the destinations of graduates six months post-graduation. This survey is a government requirement, and provides a snapshot of what our graduates are doing in the first year after graduating. We can provide data in a variety of formats and for a range of purposes, from QAA subject reviews to grant applications, annual reports and marketing text.
If you would be interested in finding out more about the destinations of your graduates, please contact us at careers@kcl.ac.uk.
Links with Employers
We maintain active relationships with hundreds of employers from large corporates to small NGOs, offering a range of services to help them to connect with students, including:
-
Departmental employability skills sessions co-delivered by relevant employers
-
Networking events, careers fora and careers fairs for employers to connect with students
-
Alumni-led careers events
-
A vacancy handling service for employers to advertise their opportunities to students and recent graduates
Careers advice for staff
King's Careers and Employability is primarily a support service for students and contract research staff but our facilities are also available to other members of staff depending on demand. Staff wishing to consult us should initially come to one of our appointment sessions to discuss possible assistance or email us at careers@kcl.ac.uk.
Staff who are graduates are also eligible to use the facilities of C2 Careers – also part of The Careers Group (charges apply) – or you can contact your former institution of study whose careers service may offer advice to their alumni. Non-graduate staff can consult the government funded Next Steps careers advice site.
