The examiners nominated by your supervisor will be considered by the relevant Subject Area Board. The SAB will make a recommendation regarding the examiners’ academic suitability. The Chair of the Research Degrees Examination Board will then take the final decision on appointment.
Submit two copies of your thesis to the Examinations and Awards Office, along with the RD7 Declaration of words and ownership of work.
Students and supervisors should not send a thesis directly to examiners.
When both examiners have been appointed, your thesis will be dispatched. Your supervisor will be asked to arrange the oral examination, which should be within six months of the thesis submission.
The oral examination should not be arranged prior to the dispatch of the theses to the examiners.
The examiners are required to write a joint report and complete a decision form, and send these to the Examinations and Awards Office. Examiners’ recommendations must be ratified by the Chair of the Research Degrees Examination Board before we can formally confirm the outcome to you. This is done once a month, at the end of the month.
Once your degree has been awarded you are required to submit one hard-bound copy of your thesis to the Examinations and Awards Office. This will be sent to the College Library. Students awarded a research degree since 1 April 2012 are also required to submit an electronic version of their thesis in addition to the print version. Please see information about e-thesis repository below. Students awarded a research degree since 1 January 2011 are encouraged to submit an electronic copy in addition to their print version as above.
