Immigration or Money & Housing Advice Drop-ins

What is an advice drop-in for?

You are advised to attend a drop-in session if you have a general immigration, money or housing enquiry, or want to check the process for applying for a visa or funding, or have a housing contract checked.

You can also come to a drop-in if you need advice urgently and cannot wait to be allocated an appointment but there may be limitations to what we can do on the day.

How can an advisor help?

At the drop-in you can expect the advisor to listen to your query, take any urgent action and put in place next steps.  As drop-ins are quick triage appointments, we may not be able to resolve your query on the day.  The outcomes could be:

  • you are given initial guidance on where to find further information or action your can take for yourself
  • if more help is needed you may be invited to a longer appointment with the advisor
  • or we ask you to provide us with additional documentation so that we can advise you further

All Advice is offered for free and in confidence in accordance with the Student Service Privacy Notice

Always check this webpage for updates and changes throughout the year, as well as notices about dedicated clinics on specific issues.

Please note that an appointment is not always necessary to resolve your enquiry, all queries are triaged to determine the best way to engage with you and in most situations we can provide the information you need by email and link you to other sources of support.

I would like to speak to someone as soon as possible

Where a drop-in is not available, the next quickest way to speak to a Specialist Advisor is to call the Advice Line. Opening times are subject to change, so always check the web page for the current timetable. If you require further advice, a follow up consultation can be booked for you.  We endeavour to run an telephone or drop-in session every day of the week, aside from bank holidays and when the university is closed.

If you are unable to call the Advice Line and would like to explain your situation via email, please use the online booking form to detail your enquiry but please confirm your availability for a telephone or virtual appointment, should we need to speak to you in person.

Please check this page regularly for the most up to date information.
