Personal tutors

Responsibilities of the student

You have an equal responsibility with your tutor to ensure that you get the most from the Personal Tutor system.

You should take responsibility for...

  • participating constructively by preparing for and attending meetings
  • telling your tutor about problems or potential problems affecting your academic or personal lives at as early a stage as possible
  • developing and maintaining realistic expectations of the Personal Tutor system
Finally, your Tutor may not be able to resolve all of your problems. Indeed, giving you the pointers you need to resolve problems yourself is a fundamental part of the Personal Tutor role.

Also, remember also that Tutors are not support professionals and there might be an occasion when he/she is simply not qualified to help and introduces more specialist support. If that happens, you should take full advantage of the Student Experience Support Services on offer.
