Daniel Van Gijn, 2012 graduate dental student, has won first prize in the DENTSPLY Ceram.X Case Contest 2011/12 for the UK. His winning entry will be submitted to the international final.

10 July 2012 Dentistry gets only one of three College Teaching Fellowships

Dr Michael Escudier has been awarded the title of ‘College Teaching Fellow’  in recognition of excellence in teaching by the College Teaching Fellowship selection panel. Only two awards were made in King’s in 2012.

Eating fruit such as apples could be up to four times more damaging to teeth than carbonated drinks, according to a new study led by Professor David Bartlett at the King’s Dental Institute.

4 October 2011 Collaboration strengthened with Thailand

Five visitors from Thailand visited the Dental Institute to consolidate the existing collaboration between the National Metal and Materials Technology Center by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with King’s College London.

Two members of staff from the Dental Institute were recognised at the 2011 King's Awards - Dr Michael Escudier won the ICT Award and Professor Raman Bedi was presented with the International Collaboration of the Year Award.

23 September 2011 A new easy way to measure dry mouth

On 2 September 2011, an event was held to launch the Challacombe Scale, an easy-to-use tool for identifying and quantifying the severity of dry mouth, developed by Professor Stephen Challacombe at the Dental Institute.

19 September 2011 Young dental writer awarded

Dr Rupert Austin, NIHR Clinical Lecturer and Specialty Registrar in Prosthodontics at the Dental Institute, has been named the 2011 Young Dental Writer of the Year.

1 September 2011 Case presentation success

Raheel Malik, 2010 graduate dental student and Senior House Officer at the Dental Institute, has won the London Deanery's Ruby Austin Prize for the best case presentation by a Vocational Training student.

Dr Dianne Rekow, Senior Vice Provost of Engineering and Technology at New York University (NYU) and Provost of Polytechnic Institute of NYU, has been appointed as the next Dean of the Dental Institute at King’s College London. 

10 August 2011 Clinical teacher wins inaugural Nairn Wilson Prize

Dr Nigel Meakin, a clinical teacher for both King’s College London Dental Institute and the University of Portsmouth, has won the inaugural Nairn Wilson Prize for innovation in teaching.
