At the Dental Institute, we strongly believe in collaborative working, not just between departments internally but with our industry partners. Over the last few years we have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge and that coupled with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment is now being made available to potential industry partners.

As the largest centre of excellence in the UK for oral and dental research, King’s College London Dental Institute’s international reputation attracts students and staff from across the world. The School undertakes and actively promotes leading basic, clinical and translational research in collaboration with its world famous associate hospitals – Guy’s, King’s College and St Thomas’.World-renowned research activities underpin our research, teaching and specialist clinical care and keep us at the forefront of developments in dental and oral science.

We have strong links with industry for research and development and technology transfer. The latest technology and facilities available within our laboratories are used to encourage the collaboration between clinical and nonclinical scientists with multidisciplinary skills.

Over the years we have worked with many organisations from small local institutions to major multinational companies.

SaLivary research

We successfully incorporated saliva as the third diagnostic fluid alongside blood and urine in a major national health resource, UK Biobank which has recruited 500,000 people and collected over 100,000 saliva samples with a view to monitor disease.

Our clinical academics are internationally recognised for their research. An important aspect of our work is the dedication to multidisciplinary clinical as well as translational research.

We work in newly refurbished laboratory space that includes facilities for the latest technological innovations including human stem cells, chemical screens, confocal microscopy, optical projection tomography and micro-CT.

  

Translational research, biomaterials & imaging

We have state-of-the-art facilities for engineering scaffolds, their biomechanical characterisation such as extensive biocompatibity testing, cell-material interactions and imaging.
