DNA: the King’s story
FAQ
11. What did Signer’s DNA look like?
Shrivelled skin. Image 1 shows samples in bottles kept by Wilkins. Images 2 and 3 show a sample mounted fairly crudely for early work and a later more sophisticated device built in house for mounting. Wilkins has been described as being particularly adept at pulling by hand the dampened film into the fine threads required for the diffraction work. Franklin used a highly polished and oiled microscope without the lenses for the same purpose.
