CINAHL tutorial

What is CINAHL?

CINAHL is a database of references to journal papers, dating back to 1982. Subject coverage focuses on nursing and midwifery journals but also includes primary journals from the allied health disciplines such as physiotherapy, health education and nutrition. Most references are to journal articles, but the database also includes references to books, dissertations, conference proceedings, and other publications. It now contains over 848 000 references, so it is essential to be able to search effectively.

What is Ovid?

Ovid is the interface we use at King's to search the database. The interface is the set of tools we use to create searches, see the results and save them. You may encounter different interfaces in the future, but most of the principles we explain in this tutorial will apply to them as well.

What is Athens?

Athens is an authentication system. It means that we can give you a single username and password which you can use to access not just CINAHL, but a range of databases and electronic journals. Athens is not itself a database or information resource.
