Why do you need information skills?

To be an effective and critical consumer of information, you will need skills in searching for, evaluating and managing information. Finding high quality information has become increasingly complex as Internet technologies and the information revolution have blurred the distinctions between academic, professional and popular sources.

You need information skills to:

  • Write essays or complete assignments
  • Prepare a topic for a presentation
  • Revise for an exam
  • Search for literature for a dissertation or research project
  • Cite all the resources you are using correctly
