ICPS hosted ten senior officials from the Chinese prison system on a study tour to the UK from 14th-24th June. The officials from the Ministry of Justice and the provincial prison services in Hubei and Anhui were here as part of a two year project funded by the UK Foreign Office to promote a human rights approach to prison management. The delegation is seen below in the Maughan Library at King’s College, with Professor Andrew Coyle, ICPS Director Rob Allen and ICPS Associate Mike Newell who accompanied the delegation on their ten day visit.
Rob Allen commented that “the delegation showed particular interest in the English system of security classification and in the role of non governmental organisations in assisting the reintegration of prisoners after release. We will be returning to China later in the year to encourage the piloting of reforms in the two provinces.”
