Cian Murphy rejoins the School following a year as Research Fellow at City University London. He submitted his PhD at King's in September 2009 and a monograph based on his thesis, entitled EU Counter-Terrorism: Pre-emption & the Rule of Law, will be published by Hart Publishing in 2010. Cian’s research interests lie in the areas of EU, Irish and British public law, counter-terrorism law and human rights; EU criminal law and justice; and the relationship between law, power and violence. At King's, Cian will teach public law and 'Critical Approaches to Terrorism and State Violence'.
Eloise Scotford comes to King’s after three years as the Career Development Fellow in Environmental Law at the Faculty of Law and at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford. She obtained the University Medal in Law in her undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney, Australia, and has recently submitted her doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford (concerning the doctrinal development of environmental principles in EU and Australian courts). Eloise's research concerns environmental law, particularly waste regulation, air quality regulation and the role of environmental principles in environmental law. At King’s, Eloise will teach tort law, whilst preparing her doctoral thesis for publication and working on OUP’s upcoming Environmental Law: Text, Cases and Materials.
Sandy Steel joins King's as a Lecturer after a number of years at Cambridge as an undergraduate, postgraduate and recently Bye Fellow. He hopes to obtain his doctorate, supervised by Regius Professor of Civil Law, David Ibbetson, in the course of 2011.
In essence he is a comparative private lawyer with an interest in moral philosophy.
Rachael Walsh will join King’s in January 2011, following the submission of her Ph.D. thesis at Trinity College, Dublin. Rachael’s core area of research is the theory of private property and the interaction of public and private law concerning property, with a particular focus on property as a human right. More broadly, her research interests are in property law, constitutional law and theory, planning law and jurisprudence. During the 2010-11 academic year, Rachael will teach property law.
Barbara Lauriat will join King’s in January 2011, after two years as the Career Development Fellow in Intellectual Property Law in the Faculty and St Catherine’s College, Oxford, and following the submission of her DPhil thesis on the 1878 Royal Commission on Copyright. Her research concerns the history and theory of intellectual property.
