LONDON CORONERS
For a map of the 33 local government areas covering the London area, click here. There are however only eight coroners' districts for London, as follows (stating local authority areas served in brackets):
NORTH (Haringey, Barnet, Brent, Enfield, Harrow)
EAST (Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham)
SOUTH (Croydon, Bexley, Bromley, Sutton, Merton (part of Mitcham))
WEST (Hammersmith and Fulham, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Ealing, Richmond, Kingston upon Thames)
INNER NORTH (Camden, Islington, Tower Hamlets, Hackney)
INNER SOUTH (Southwark, Lambeth, Greenwich, Lewisham)
INNER WEST (Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Wandsworth, Merton (except part of Mitcham))
CITY (City of London)
In all cases except the last (where only a single local authority is concerned), each coroner's district covers a group of local authority areas. Of each such group, one authority (first named, in bold) is legally responsible for resourcing the coroner service, recouping appropriate proportions of the cost from the other authorities in the group. But the paying authority has no control over what the coroner actually does. The Greater London Authority has neither resourcing nor any other responsibility for the coroner service in London.
Not all local authority websites give details of coroner services. The following do so:
