 Organ transplants

Where the body of a deceased person is in the possession of the coroner, or where there is reason to believe that an inquest or a post-mortem examination may be required by the coroner, the coroner’s consent will be needed in order to remove an organ from the body.

There is a UK Transplant website, with news and useful information, including links, relating to organ donation and transplants. The NHS maintains a National Organ Donor Register. In relation to eye transplants, The Royal College of Opthamologists’ website offers considerable guidance, eg on corneal transplants.

See, generally, Jervis, paras 6-62 - 6-68, Levine, paras 34.07-34.09, Halsbury’s Laws, Vol 9(2), para 871, Dorries, para 4.16.
