ICPS assists non custodial sentencing in South Africa

ICPS director Rob Allen visited Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg from 21-27th February at the invitation of leading NGO the National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO). Rob made a presentation to the national reference group which oversees NICRO’s non-custodial sentencing programme, funded by the UK Department for International Development. He also met with magistrates and prosecutors at courts in Pretoria and Soweto, visited Odi prison in Gauteng province and had discussions with a range of organisations and individuals including the Judicial Inspectorate of Prisons, the University of the Western Cape and the Open Society Foundation.
