Learn how to craft your own comics and zines in this workshop with Doctor R. Benedito Ferrão, co-author of two graphic narratives: The Destination is the Journey (2017) with Vamona Navelcar and The Uninvited Host: Goa and the Parties not Meant for its People (2023).

The visual-verbal form of the comic book uses illustration to work in tandem with words; the genre breaks out of the confines of traditional storytelling to permit a more innovative and exploratory form of narrative. In this workshop, Dr Ferrão will help attendees to harness the capabilities of integrating written word and images, making the most of the zine's form.

Participants will not need to be expert artists: any form of art-making is fine, including stick figures, collages, and digital media. Story prompts will be provided, but workshop attendees are also welcome to use their own ideas.
