Information about the funding
The Small Research Grants fund is administered by the Director of Graduate Studies, with the aim to support research and student-led initiatives in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities by making available small grants which are often difficult to obtain from grant-giving bodies. This grant scheme is only applicable to King’s College awarded research degree students within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities departments.

Information about the application
The Faculty of Arts & Humanities runs a competition for small grants for research students three times per academic year.

All applicants should read the document Small Grants for Research Student Guidelines (pdf) before submitting an application. The Frequently Asked Questions may also be of use.

The deadlines for submission of completed applications for the 2016/17 round are:

  • 17:00 on Friday 4 November 2016
  • 17:00 on Friday 3 March 2017
  • 17:00 on Friday 30 June 2017

There are two types of Small Grants for all Arts & Humanities students:

1. Group Events Grant - Normally up to £3,000
The Events Grant is available to students who wish to run a collaborative event in conjunction with at least one other student. This may be the organisation of a conference, a series of workshops or seminars or any other event that can demonstrably be of interest and value to the Faculty's research community.

Please note that funding will not be offered for standing events, or those associated with established networks, as the purpose of the grants is to encourage new and innovative initiatives.

Students applying for this type of grant must complete the Group Event Grant Application Form and pass it to their supervisor for submission to the Education Team by the designated deadline.

2. Individual Research Grant - Normally up to £1,000 or £300 for conference attendance
Students may submit applications for grants for fieldwork, visits to libraries, collections or sites, conference attendance, and other special activities or the acquisition of special resources clearly related to an individual’s research project or training.

Students applying for this type of grant must complete the Individual Grant Application Form and pass it to their supervisor for submission to the Education Team by the designated deadline.
