Conference Funds

The Graduate School recognises the importance of doctoral researchers giving oral or poster presentations at conferences and has created a Fund to assist some students to do this. Unfortunately funds are limited and are designed to supplement the funding available to students through other means such as their department and School. This fund is not the main source of funding for conference attendance and it is therefore a requirement that applicants will have already sought funding from their Department/School and other funding bodies before applying to this fund

There are four competition rounds for 2011/12 and each round will have a set deadline along with a set allocated funding limit. Please note that because funds are limited per round only the very best applications will be successful.

NOTE (added 14.09.11): Due to the high demand for this scheme we have had to review the processes and criteria and make some amendments with immediate effect to ensure that we are able to support as many students as possible.

Value of Award

A successful application will be awarded up to £300 (max) towards the costs incurred for conference attendance, so applicants are encouraged to seek match funding from their department, from the conference organiser, and from charities.

Eligibility

In order to be considered for a Graduate School Conference Fund, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be currently registered as a postgraduate research student at King’s College London
  • Have been accepted to present a paper or poster at a conference*
  • Be supported to attend the conference by their supervisor
  • Have sought funding from other sources
  • Submit the required documentation by the relevant deadline (see below)
Due to the limited budget and high demand for support, each student is restricted to one successful application per academic year. Those who have already received Graduate School Conference Funding will not be considered for additional awards in the same academic year. Applicants may apply again in the next academic year, given that you are eligible and that the funds are available again.

*where an applicant has not yet received confirmation of acceptance for the conference, the applicant is required to provide proof of application for the conference, and if successfully chosen for an award the applicant must finally provide confirmation of acceptance for the conference in order to receive the awarded funds.
