We have three teams dedicated to connecting industry to our academics and research:

Consultancy and contracted services

The Consultancy Unit ensures that appropriate arrangements are in place to manage financial and contractual arrangements for work done for external parties. We help academic staff identify and manage project opportunities to develop higher quality proposals. We routinely support informed decision making around project acceptance.  We perform post-contract financial and contractual support. Active project management is available by special arrangement.

Typically, assignments are for the provision of services with deliverables, such as reviews, specific advice, sample analysis, testing, evaluation, assessment, validation, or scientific development. The clients for this activity are external organisations such as government departments, NHS, NGOs, charities, other universities, as well as business, industry, and other companies.

We help academic staff with bespoke projects and support units across the College that regularly provide services

Partnerships

We make it easier for academics in contact with business to win funding to support and develop those relationships. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) and Collaborative Awards for Science and Engineering (CASE) are the two best-known examples.

We encourage innovative thinking and enterprising behaviours through the Lion’s Den Challenge. This also helps identify and develop research ideas into successful business plans and bring people together to create successful ventures

IP and licensing
The IP and Licensing team is responsible for assessing and protecting IP that arises directly or indirectly from research activities within King’s and King’s Health Partners (KHP) and licensing such IPR to existing and new companies.
