Mike Shaw PhD

Director IP and Licensing

Shaw,MikeMike joined King’s Business in November 2007 where he is leading the team with responsibility for all aspects of management and commercialisation of the College’s IP.

Mike obtained his BSc in Pathology & Biochemistry from St. Andrews University in 1990 before completing his PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1993 in the field of immunology. His research interests were in the area of paediatric vaccination and infectious disease and he has both published and patented in this field.

In 1994 he moved to The Netherlands to work for the Dutch conglomerate TNO in Leiden, establishing and growing an infectious diseases operation. He was Head of Sector for Infectious Diseases at TNO for more than four years directing the development of a variety of diagnostic and vaccine technologies for development and out-licensing activity with industry, and providing consulting and other R&D capability in the infectious diseases field to both government departments and the World Health Organisation before returning to the UK in 2002 to take up the position of CEO of Sussex IP Ltd, an IP Management subsidiary company owned by the University of Sussex.
